1.  DIGITAL MARKETING

Especially social media.  Marketing majors should have a strong grasp of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat and other emerging apps. Not only is it important to understand how to use these platforms, but it is important to understand how to analyze the success of a social media campaign using analytics.

2.  STRONG ORAL & WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Marketers do quite a bit of writing, so learn how to write succinctly. From communicating with your supervisor and team to copywriting to make an effective campaign, good communication is essential. Right now, content marketing is widely used, so understand how to write a digital, mobile audience.

3.  AGILITY

With marketing changing so rapidly, you're going to need to be able to share with your interviewer a time when you were flexible and how that impacted the outcome. Show that you are able to be ahead of new trends and quickly learn new skills.

4.  TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES BEYOND MICROSOFT OFFICE

You do not need to know all the tools and software marketers now use but it will help to show that you are capable of quickly mastering a new technology for social media management, keyword searches, updating website content and monitoring media.

5.  USING METRICS TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR RESULTS

Data analytics is growing trend in marketing and it's vital to know how to measure the success of a campaign using Key Performance Indicators, or KPIs. Some KPIs include click-through rates, increase in revenue, etc.
